When stress goes on for too long, recovery requires a different approach.
With chronic stress complaints, burnout, or when you are temporarily unable to work, there is often a need for more than reflection and finding direction.
At that stage, recovery becomes central.
In this situation, I offer individual support aimed at restoring energy, and taxability, based on the CSR Method®. In this work, we use what your body is telling you. Once your body is able to recover again from your efforts, we explore underlying patterns and gradually rebuild your taxability.
Individual support
Who is this support for?
This support is suitable when you:
- experience chronic stress complaints
- notice that you are always “on” or sleep poorly
- are absent from work or at risk of becoming unable to work
- feel that it has all become too much
What we do
We work on recovery on three levels:
- body – calming your stress system and restoring energy
- mind – insight into the underlying patterns behind stress
- behaviour – gradually reshaping your daily activities
The support is always aligned with your current taxability and pace. Your social context — both private and work-related — is part of this as well. This approach is at the heart of the CSR Method®.
What this brings
The aim is not only to reduce symptoms, but to recover in a sustainable way so that you can again experience space, clarity, and ownership.
You learn:
- how your stress system works and how to calm it
- what early signs of overload look like
- what genuinely supports recovery
- how to prevent relapse
- how to gradually resume your activities and experience more space and direction again
What the programme looks like
This support is tailored to your situation and recovery process. The number of individual sessions therefore depends on what you need. The length of the sessions can vary depending on your energy levels. We meet in person (Nijmegen) and online.
We begin with physical recovery, then explore underlying patterns that resulted in chronic overload, and gradually restore direction and structure in both work and private life. You receive practical exercises. In between sessions email contact is possible.
During an introductory call, we explore together what would be suitable and whether this form of support fits your situation.
"Pursuing an academic career involves significant stress that comes from managing multiple projects and striving to publish. I began sessions with Maartje to better navigate these challenges and rekindle the initial joy I felt from doing science.
Before I worked with Maartje, I wasn’t managing stress in a healthy or sustainable manner. While stress remains part of my job, I now possess a much more effective set of tools and strategies to handle it. Thanks to Maartje’s guidance, I’ve learned practical methods to navigate difficult situations and approach challenges with greater clarity and confidence.
Working with Maartje has significantly improved my ability to recognize when stress is becoming overwhelming and when it's time to seek support. I am now more assertive, aware of unhelpful thought patterns, and better at guiding myself back to my core values. These changes have brought more balance and purpose to both my professional and personal life."

About my approach
In this work, I combine my experience as a psychologist with my background in neuropsychology. Through the CSR Method®, I bring my knowledge of the body’s neurophysiology into the guidance of recovery from chronic stress.
I trained and completed my PhD in neuropsychology, and alongside my practice I work as an Associate Professor of Wellbeing. This combination allows me to support both the physical and psychological aspects of stress and recovery.
